Patrick Pearson tragically passed away in the South Fork fires in Ruidoso, NM, on Monday while attempting to evacuate. His family is now facing the unexpected expenses of his funeral.
Hilary Mallak, Patrick’s daughter, shared the news on Facebook, expressing her shock and sadness. "He was a musician in Ruidoso and very well known around that community the past few years. Before that, he was a musician in Albuquerque for decades with lifelong friends that he would play music with and entertain. He always wanted to make everyone around him happy with his music and his singing. He loved being a grandpa to 7 grandchildren, 2 of which were recently born this past year! He is going to be greatly missed by our family, friends, and the musicians! Music was what he did up until the end."
Samantha Garcia, another daughter, posted, "As many of you already know, we lost our dad to the Ruidoso fires. This loss was very unexpected. With that comes unexpected expenses. If you can find it in your hearts to help donate for a proper funeral for our dad, we would greatly appreciate it. He will be back in Albuquerque in a few days, and we will start arranging the last ride for him. Thank you so much for your continued prayers and thoughts. We are so very grateful."
Hilary has created a GoFundMe campaign titled "The Cowboy Rides Away" to raise funds for Patrick’s funeral expenses. The campaign has raised $1,000 out of a $5,000 goal with 10 donations so far. Alison Peterson made the top donation of $500.
Community members have expressed their condolences and support. Brianna Twigg commented, "Sam, I’m so so sorry! Sending prayers to you and your family!!"
The passing of Patrick Pearson is a significant loss to his family and the music community in Ruidoso and Albuquerque. His legacy will live on through his music and the memories shared by those who knew him.
