The late Nolan Ridge was from Ajax, Ontario. His untimely passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family and friends. To commemorate his memory, Nolan’s brother, Carter Ridge, has initiated a fundraiser to install a memorial bench at the waterfront in Ajax. This bench is intended to serve as a place for loved ones to sit and feel close to Nolan, recalling the times they spent together.
Carter Ridge shared his heartfelt motivation for the fundraiser on GoFundMe: "Last year, my big brother took his life and it has left a hole in my life. The other day I was out with my friend and we were sitting on a memorial bench and I remembered all the times I had with Nolan in south Ajax getting up to mischief or hanging out in the greenbelt or by the lake. I wanted a place that me and other people Nolan was close with, that we can go and sit and have a moment with Nolan. Maybe we might even stumble into each other, he was always good at bringing people together."
The campaign has raised $1,565 CAD of its $3,900 goal, with contributions from 22 donors so far. The recent donation of $20 was made by Cassandra Larose, and the top donation of $500 was given by an anonymous donor. Jessica Hackett, who made the first donation of $5, also showed her support for this cause.
Tucker Shane, a friend of the Ridge family, posted on Facebook urging others to contribute: "Hey! Nolan’s family and friends are trying to get a bench at the waterfront in Ajax installed to commemorate him, and to have a place to sit and feel close to him. Please consider donating, even small ones add up."
This bench will not only be a tribute to Nolan’s memory but also a place for the community to gather, reminisce, and find solace. The outpouring of support reflects the profound impact Nolan had on those around him and the collective effort to honor his life.
