The late Neal J Harmon was from Providence. Neal passed away very unexpectedly, leaving his family and community in shock and grief. Sadly, Neal struggled with multiple health and wellness issues throughout his life, which left him without any burial insurance and without insurance for a cremation.
Lorraine Ruiz, a close associate, has organized a GoFundMe campaign to help manage the financial impact on Neal’s family. His mother, who is retired and disabled, is now facing this tragic loss without the means to cover funeral expenses. The fundraiser aims to raise $10,000, and so far, $400 has been collected from five donations.
Neal was a well-known community activist, actively involved in LGBTQ meetings and creating Facebook pages to support sobriety and mental health. He was a familiar face at community events, advocating for those managing mental health issues while in prison. Additionally, Neal was a beloved figure in his family, always encouraging his twin nieces and nephew, celebrating holidays, birthdays, and home-cooked meals with them.
Several community members have already shown their support. Stephanie Aragao donated $50, Marisa Etting contributed $100, Ingrid Siliezar gave $100, Wendy Falciano donated $50, and Lorraine Ruiz herself donated $100. Each donation is a testament to the impact Neal had on those around him.
The family plans to honor Neal’s memory by continuing to engage in community volunteer work. They express their deep gratitude for any contributions, emphasizing the importance of collective support in times of personal and financial hardship.
