Nathan Thomas, better known as Pop, passed away from a brain injury on May 30, 2024. He had just completed exactly 47 years of life, with his birthday being on May 31st. Pop was a father, son, brother, trained community mediator, community activist, and one of the funniest individuals many had ever met. His passing has left a significant void in Baltimore City, especially in the Belmont-Rosemont neighborhood where he was a beloved figure.
Erricka Bridgeford, organizing a fundraiser on behalf of Krissy Long, highlights the urgent need for financial support to cover Pop’s funeral and repass. As of now, $400 has been raised out of the $10,000 goal, with donations coming from various community members, including Tanya Hodnett, who contributed $50, and Mengistu Abate, who donated $100.
Danielle Latrice Alexander, in a heartfelt Facebook post, expressed the community’s grief: "I grew up in a neighborhood where we became family, I have never seen a neighborhood like Belmont-Rosemont! Nathan Pop Thomas was a son, brother, friend, dad, cousin, uncle, and he was funny, cared about the neighborhood and people! Pop, you will truly be missed. Tell my brother I’m still pushing. S.i.P."
Pop had been in the process of getting life insurance, but unfortunately, he did not have coverage at the time of his passing. This has added to the family’s burden, prompting the community to come together and help. The fundraiser, titled "Join in Love to Support Pop’s Final Journey," encourages people to give what they can, share the link, or send their prayers and loving thoughts.
Erricka Bridgeford emphasizes the impact of Pop’s life and the need for collective support: "We are asking for community to help us raise money for Pop’s funeral and repass. Give little or give big. Share this fundraiser’s link or send a bunch of coins. Whatever you give, and however you participate, we ask that you do it in love. Say a word of peace and comfort for Pop’s new journey as you click to share or click to donate."
Pop’s passing is not just a personal loss but a communal one, reflecting the deep connections he fostered and the love he shared. The community’s response showcases the profound impact he had and their commitment to honoring his memory.
