The late Maria Sotelo was a beloved teacher in Phoenix, Arizona. Her tragic passing has left the community and her loved ones in deep mourning. Maria, who taught 4th grade at The Creighton School District for three years, was eagerly looking forward to her fourth year of teaching. Her dedication to her students and her engaging, hands-on approach in the classroom made her a favorite among students and colleagues alike.
Maria’s life was cut short on the night of Monday, May 28th, when she was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident. The driver of the motorcycle lost control of the vehicle and struck a concrete median, resulting in the deaths of both the driver and Maria.
In response to this sudden and heartbreaking loss, Amber McLane has organized a GoFundMe campaign to support Maria’s family with funeral, memorial, and other expenses. The fundraiser, titled "Gone Too Soon – Ms. Maria Sotelo," aims to raise $5,000. As of now, the campaign is seeking its first supporter.
Amber McLane shared on the GoFundMe page, "Words seem inadequate to express the sorrow felt by the loss of such a dear friend and colleague. Maria Sotelo was not just a colleague; she was a source of inspiration to her students, colleagues, and families." This sentiment is echoed by many who knew Maria. Mamy Santos and Poblano Phoenix, among others, have also shared their grief and memories of Maria on Facebook, highlighting her kindness, warmth, and the positive impact she had on everyone around her.
Maria’s untimely death is a profound loss for the community she served with such enthusiasm and love. Her legacy of joy, laughter, and unwavering support will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
