The late Mohamed A. Ibrahim was a 65-year-old resident of Astoria, Queens, who worked as a taxi driver. He passed away on June 28, 2024, at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Mohamed hailed from Egypt and had no immediate family to cover his funeral expenses, leaving his burial arrangements in the hands of the community.
Imam Ahmed Ali has organized a fundraiser to cover the $4,300 needed for Mohamed’s funeral. This effort is being supported by the United States Chaplain Force, with all donations going directly to cover the funeral costs. The Islamic International Funeral Services, a respected Muslim funeral home, will handle the arrangements.
Mohamed’s Janaza prayer is scheduled for tomorrow at IQRA MASJID in Brooklyn, NY, followed by his burial at Marlboro Muslim Memorial Cemetery in Morganville, NJ. The community has started to rally, with two anonymous donations totaling $150 already made, but more support is needed to meet the goal.
The situation highlights the religious and communal responsibility to ensure that no member of the community is left without a dignified final resting place. The fundraiser is a call to action for all to contribute and share, ensuring Mohamed’s peaceful journey to his final home.
