The late Matt Moody, a beloved figure in the Quad City arts and theatre community, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 30th. The news of his untimely death has left his family, friends, and the broader community heartbroken. Matt’s influence extended far and wide, touching the lives of many through his championing of various performance arts and his boundless support for fellow artists.
In response to this tragic loss, Kathleen Israel has organized a GoFundMe campaign titled "Honoring Matt Moody: Support for the Moody family." The fundraiser aims to raise $12,000 to help cover funeral expenses and provide support for Matt’s family. So far, $360 has been raised through six donations. Kathleen highlights the difficulty of managing funeral costs, especially given the unexpected nature of Matt’s death.
"Matt Moody was one of the most beloved figures in the Quad City arts and theatre community," writes Kathleen. "He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, acceptance, and generosity. He impacted countless lives during his time with us, and we are all left a little bit broken by his absence."
The community has come together to support Matt’s family in their time of need. Donations include $100 from Alaina Pascarella, $10 from Luke Vermeire, $25 from Andy Shearouse, and $25 from Anna Holland. Each contribution, no matter the amount, is a testament to the love and respect held for Matt.
The Nightcaps Improv Comedy group also expressed their sorrow on Facebook: "We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our friend, Matt Moody. Matt was a champion of all different kinds of performance arts. He was loved by so many in our community of entertainers, and he loved us artists back even more. Our hearts are with Matt’s family, friends, and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him."
Matt Moody’s passing has not only brought grief but also a collective effort to honor his memory by supporting his family. As Kathleen Israel mentioned, "Anyone who knew Matt knows how deeply he adored his family, especially the love of his life—his wonderful wife Mandy." The community’s donations and emotional support are ways to continue Matt’s legacy of kindness and generosity during this difficult time.
