The community is mourning the loss of Marion Chavez, a 28-year-old mother from Albuquerque, New Mexico. The tragedy that unfolded was a heart-wrenching family murder-suicide, leaving Marion and her husband, Max Chavez, deceased. Their two young daughters, aged 6 and 8, survived this unimaginable event and are now under the care of Marion’s parents, Charlotte Chapela and Boyd Nystedt.
Marion was a devoted wife and mother, deeply committed to her daughters’ well-being and happiness. Known for her vibrant personality, Marion was the life of the party, often seen dancing and singing her favorite karaoke songs. Her talents were evident early on when she became the school mascot "Lucy Lobo" at the University of New Mexico in 2013.
In the wake of this tragedy, Marion’s mother, Charlotte Chapela, has started a GoFundMe campaign titled "Support for the daughters of Marion & Max Chavez." The fundraiser aims to assist the grandparents in providing long-term care for the girls, as they are on fixed incomes. So far, the campaign has raised $1,245 of its $10,000 goal, with donations from 19 people including Lauren Rysanek, who recently donated $50, and an anonymous top donor who contributed $250.
Friends and family are rallying around the fundraiser, sharing their grief and support. Nicole Lesansee, a close family friend, expressed her shock and sadness on Facebook, saying, "I can’t come up with words to express my feelings except shock but if anyone can help during this difficult time, it would be greatly appreciated… Marion and her mother were the most selfless, influential folks I’ve ever met… This loss is beyond words."
The family appreciates the outpouring of condolences and prayers during this difficult time. Marion’s light and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. As the community continues to support the grieving family, the focus remains on ensuring a stable and loving future for Marion’s daughters.
