Maria Enela German, 80, had recently obtained her visa to visit her daughter, Susan German, in the United States. Tragically, after only 14 days in the hospital, she passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024. Her unexpected illness and subsequent death have left her family in deep sorrow, especially since Susan was her only family member in the United States.
Susan German, also known as Susan Diaz, is now organizing a fundraiser to send Maria Enela’s body back to the Dominican Republic so she can be laid to rest with her relatives. The GoFundMe campaign, created by Susan, has a goal of $8,000. As of now, $700 has been raised through two donations: $500 from Edwin Solano and $200 from an anonymous donor.
"Mi madre, Maria Enela, de 80 años de edad, después de conseguir su visa para venir a visitarme en los Estados Unidos, se enfermó prontamente y después de estar 14 días en el hospital y regresar a mi lado, falleció rápidamente ayer domingo, 2 de junio de 2024," Susan wrote on the GoFundMe page, expressing her grief and the urgent need for support.
The community has begun to rally around Susan in this difficult time. Dalreny Paulino shared the GoFundMe link on Facebook, encouraging others to donate and support the family during this painful period. The generosity and solidarity from friends and strangers alike are crucial as Susan navigates the challenges of repatriating her mother’s body and managing funeral expenses.
Maria Enela’s passing has highlighted the emotional and financial difficulties that come with losing a loved one, especially when far from home. The fundraiser underscores the importance of community support in times of crisis and the impact of collective efforts to ease the burden on grieving families.
