The late Maria Eichas from Spencerport was a talented and beloved young woman whose life was tragically cut short on June 1, 2024, by a drunk driver. Maria, only 18 years old, had a bright future ahead of her, marked by her exceptional talents in both sports and music. Her passing has left her family, friends, and community in deep mourning.
Maria was not just an athlete but an amazing teammate and a person whose vibrant personality touched everyone she met. She had a profound love for music and possessed a beautiful voice that captivated her audience. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support made her a cherished friend to many. Maria was deeply committed to her community, always eager to lend a helping hand and spread joy.
The community has rallied to support the Eichas family through this difficult time. A GoFundMe campaign organized by Sentina Spaziano aims to alleviate the financial burden of funeral expenses and other unexpected costs. As of now, $170 has been raised of the $25,000 goal, with donations from friends, family, and community members.
Rebecca Evert-Keller shared her heartfelt thoughts on Facebook, emphasizing the senselessness of the tragedy: "This is absolutely heartbreaking!!! My child graduated with this beautiful and talented young lady! Her life was stolen from her over an act of stupidity and selfishness! When anyone gets behind the wheel of a vehicle after a night of drinking/partying, they not only put themselves at risk, but the lives of others! There is no excuse to get behind the wheel drunk, especially seeing how there are more than one way to get a safe ride home these days (ex. Uber). One selfish act ended this young individual’s life and destroyed her friends and family in the process. I cannot even imagine the heartbreak and pain her parents must feel and are going through. My deepest thoughts and condolences go out to them and all who love her."
In this time of immense grief, the Eichas family and the community remember Maria for her remarkable talents and loving personality. The fundraiser continues to seek support, demonstrating the collective effort to honor her memory and help her family navigate this heartbreaking period.
