The vibrant and spirited young Makenna Abby Peed, from Kewanee, Illinois, tragically passed away on April 23, 2024, at the tender age of 19. Known for her fun-loving nature and unwavering positivity despite her complex medical challenges, Makenna’s passing has deeply affected those close to her.
In keeping with her lively spirit, Makenna expressed a unique final wish—to "go out with a bang." She wanted her cremated remains to be included in fireworks, a celebration that would light up the sky in a display of her bright personality, for her family and friends to witness and remember her brilliance. To honor her wishes, her brother Carter Peed has organized a fundraiser titled "Help Kenna Go Out With A Bang," aiming to raise $5,000 to cover the costs of this special tribute.
The fundraiser, launched on May 7th, 2024, has gathered some support, raising $205 with contributions from individuals like Daniela Garcia, Karina Rivas, and Briley Bullock. Despite these efforts, much more is needed to reach the goal. In a heartfelt message on the GoFundMe page, Carter Peed shares his sister’s ethos: she "never wanted her struggles, her illnesses, or her disability to keep anyone else down."
This call to action, resonating with her life’s joyous essence, invites the community to contribute to fulfilling Makenna’s last wish for a memorable send-off that celebrates her life rather than mourning her departure. The planned fireworks event, still to be scheduled, will be a private ceremony where loved ones can gather and send her off in a blaze of color and light, ensuring her memory shines as brightly as she did in life.
