Lt. James Tucker, a dedicated 13-year veteran of the Fernandina Beach Fire Department, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of May 24, 2024, after a medical emergency at home. Lt. Tucker was off-duty and with his family when the incident occurred. His passing has left a significant void in both his community and his family.
James Tucker was known for his unwavering commitment and bravery. He joined the Fernandina Beach Fire Department 13 years ago and climbed the ranks through sheer dedication, becoming an engineer in 2018 and a lieutenant in October of last year. His heroic efforts did not go unnoticed; in 2022, he received an EMS Save commendation for transporting a crash victim with serious injuries to an airlift within 12 minutes. Additionally, he was frequently honored at UF Health’s Night for Heroes for his critical role in saving injured patients and transporting them to the Level 1 Trauma Center where his wife, Dr. Melissa Tucker-Parsons, works as an Emergency Medicine physician and the Emergency Medicine Residency Program Director.
Lt. Tucker leaves behind his loving wife, Dr. Melissa Tucker-Parsons, and their three children: Jaelyn (21), Graham (18), and Parson (4). He was also the son of Marie Tucker and John Tucker (Lisa Tucker) and the brother of Katie Englund and John Michael Tucker. His dedication extended beyond his professional life; he was deeply committed to his family, described as the most loving husband and father.
To support the Tucker family during this difficult time, a GoFundMe campaign has been organized by Alexandra Mannix and Brianna Rivas Pennington. The fundraiser aims to raise $10,000 to help with the future education of Jaelyn, Graham, and Parson. As of now, $2,400 has been raised through the generosity of five donors, including significant contributions from Anonymous donors and Elizabeth DeVos.
The community has expressed their condolences and shared memories on social media. Cheryl Hampton Stovall wrote, "Lt. James Tucker Stovall, Marine Corp, known by family and friends as Jimmy Tuck or Jim. Married to my beautiful mother-in-law and sent to Vietnam at 23. He was killed in action on 11/7/1968. He would never meet his son (my husband, Tucker) or his four beautiful grandchildren. On this Memorial Day, please take time to remember all of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and their gold star families left behind who honor them. They never forget."
The loss of Lt. James Tucker is profoundly felt by all who knew him. His legacy of bravery, service, and love will continue to inspire and be remembered by his family, friends, and the entire Fernandina Beach community.
