Lois DeLay of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away today after a prolonged battle with kidney disease. She was 53 years old. Lois was diagnosed in December 2023 and had been in and out of the hospital and rehabilitation centers ever since. Despite her husband Daniel’s unwavering support and presence throughout her illness, Lois faced many complications that eventually led to her passing.
Jeanette Trusty, Lois’s sister, has organized a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Lois’s funeral expenses. “She did not have any life insurance and has no means to take care of her final expenses,” Jeanette shared. The fundraiser has a goal of $7,000, and as of now, $200 has been raised from three donations, including contributions from Thomas Post, Lucy Barron, and Alicia Owens.
Lois was cherished by her family and community. Ronda Pagett, a friend, wrote on Facebook, “This lady right here if you knew her, she was a good friend to most, a sister, a wife, a mother of 3 with 3 adorable grand babies that she loved with everything she had. This last year was rough on her and her family health wise, her husband has done everything he could to be by her side through all of this (she was his life) and tried his best to keep a smile on her face … Please if you can find it in your heart they need all the help they can with her final expenses and laying her to rest. R.I.P Lois DeLay you may be gone but you will not be forgotten!!”
Other friends and family members have also expressed their sorrow and condolences on social media. Erich Cochran wrote, “RIP MY FRIEND, YOU HAVE LEFT US TOO SOON AND I HATE TO SEE YOU GO.” Jasmine Young echoed the sentiments with a heartfelt, “Omggg nooooo,” and Quentin LG Brooks remembered Lois affectionately, calling her “My Pandabutt, my Friend.”
The community’s response underscores the deep impact Lois had on those around her. As her family navigates this difficult time, they rely on the support and generosity of friends, acquaintances, and compassionate strangers to help cover the unexpected costs of her funeral.
