The late Lamon Freeman was from Atlanta, Georgia. His tragic death has left his family and the community in mourning. On July 2, 2024, shortly after midnight, Lamon, along with his best friend JaKody Davis and another boy, was gunned down in front of his home. Lamon, who had just celebrated his 13th birthday, died at the scene.
Lamon was described by his aunt, Maiya Freeman, as a smart and polite boy who loved to ride his bike around the neighborhood and play basketball at the park. "He had a smile that could light up a dark room and was the life of the party," Maiya shared. Lamon was also a role model for his younger siblings, who looked up to him for guidance.
The family is now seeking closure and support as they try to come to terms with this devastating loss. Maiya Freeman has started a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of raising $10,000 to help cover the funeral expenses and provide some relief to Lamon’s grieving mother, Michelle Freeman. "All I’m asking for is to help a grieving mother bury her child," Maiya wrote. "Right now, we just need closure for my sister so she can be at peace. Anything will help and we will gladly appreciate it."
The community has been sharing their condolences and prayers on social media. Alice L. Hunnicutt posted, "Very sad! I’ve been praying for their families & friends since I heard the news." Betty Woodard wrote, "My Prayers for the families," and Sharon Higgs added, "So sad." Lenora Duncan, Sabrina Mann, and many others expressed their heartfelt sympathy and prayers for both families involved.
Kristen Miller’s comment reflected the community’s anger and sorrow: "Senseless & ignorant people! Prayers for the family. This is awful!!!!" Debbie Kerr echoed the sentiment, stating, "How horrible. God bless all the family and friends."
The fundraiser organized by Maiya Freeman aims to provide some financial relief to the family during this difficult time, ensuring that Lamon Freeman is laid to rest with dignity and that his family can find some peace amidst their grief.
