Lamech Ongiri, who had recently moved to the UK, was found dead in his room on June 3, 2024, in Swindon. This case is currently under police investigation. Lamech had arrived in the UK and Nottingham in November 2023 on a Health Care Visa. Unfortunately, the license for the company that brought him over was revoked. He managed to switch to a new company in Swindon in April and began training and shadowing in May. Tragically, he met his death just as he was about to receive his first paycheck this month.
Lamech’s family is now facing the difficult task of repatriating his body back to Kenya. His sister, Ruth Ongiri, who also moved to the UK around the same time, is similarly new to the country and has just started working. Both siblings had not yet established a network of support in the UK. The family and friends of Lamech are pleading for assistance to cover the costs associated with his repatriation and funeral.
A fundraiser has been organized by Winfred Marete, with a goal of £6,000 to help with these expenses. The community has been deeply affected by Lamech’s untimely death, with many expressing their condolences and support on social media.
Gilbert Bosire shared, "Yaa Lamech Ongiri, my heart is bleeding. Rest in peace brother." Vickie Abuga responded to this post, saying, "Pole sana Gilbert." Lydia Onyancha added, "So sad..may he RIP." Zipporah Kanisa expressed her sincere condolences, and Henry Ogari commented, "Was so unfortunate."
Lamech’s death has left a significant impact on those who knew him. Lily Ketty lamented, "Waah…ontimbu…go well…I will miss you." Walter Mainye echoed the sentiment, "Uncle Lamech too soon, what happened ontimbu…" Many others, including Joseck Moracha, Beatrice Kemunto, and Julius Raburo, shared their heartfelt condolences and sorrow.
The family is now relying on the generosity and support of the community to bring Lamech back home to Kenya for his final rest. As Winfred Marete stated, "We are humbly calling on people of goodwill to support the family in both planning and financing the repatriation of the body back to Kenya. God bless you for standing with Ongiri’s family."
