The late Kristina Kuripko from Anchorage, Alaska, tragically passed away today. Her family and friends are grappling with the heartbreak of her loss, compounded by the necessity to fund her cremation and memorial services.
Kristina’s life support was turned off at 2:00 a.m. this morning, and her heart was donated to save another person’s life. Her mother, Elena Irrigoo, is organizing a fundraiser to cover the cremation expenses.
Barbara Apangalook shared her sorrow on Facebook, writing, "My dear, dear friend Elena Irrigoo is losing her oldest daughter Kristina Kuripko tonight at 2:00 a.m. That is when life support will be turned off and the surgeon will take her heart for organ donation. A part of Kristina will live on. She will then be cremated. However, we are asking for help towards her cremation. Any amount will be tremendously appreciated. Please say a prayer for Kristina and her family."
The fundraiser, titled "Support Kristina’s Memorial and Legacy," has raised $200 out of the $1,800 goal so far, with donations from Tina Lundell ($100), Luda Kinok ($50), and Amanda Castel ($50). The community’s response underscores the collective effort to honor Kristina’s memory and support her grieving family.
Many have expressed their condolences and prayers. Millie Kingeekuk commented, "Prayer’s what a beautiful legacy a donor with big heart that will save another person. Fly high Christine! Sending love and hugs to Elena." Sylvia Toolie added, "Prayers for her family."
Kristina’s family is deeply touched by the support. Elena Irrigoo, in the GoFundMe campaign, wrote, "Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Kristina Kuripko. She was a cherished daughter, mother, and sister who brought so much love and light into our lives. Kristina will be deeply missed by all who knew her. It is a blessing to know that she is an organ donor and her kind heart will save another life."
Despite the grief, the community’s generosity provides a glimmer of hope, highlighting the importance of coming together in times of loss.
