Kody Umpherville, a beloved member of the Kelowna community, passed away suddenly on May 11th while playing pickleball, a sport he truly loved. Kody was known for his athletic prowess, kind heart, and ever-present smile. His passing has left a profound impact on his family and friends.
Kody is survived by his wife Jessica, his daughter Jennaia, his sister Connie, his mother Bunny, and his stepfather Al. The family is devastated by the loss and is facing the financial burden of funeral expenses. To help cover these costs, Thomas Elwell has organized a GoFundMe campaign, which has raised $680 CAD so far from seven donations.
Jamie Bennett shared his grief on Facebook, writing, "It’s with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of an old friend. Kody Umpherville was taken away from us suddenly and it has been a very difficult time for many…especially for his family and dear friends. Kody was the type of person that would give you the shirt off his back, never had a bad word to say about anyone and always seemed to have a smile on his face. Kody loved life and he made the world a better place."
Other friends have also expressed their condolences. Christopher Spielmann posted, "My dearest condolences to your family Kody. I don’t know where the picture is that I’m thinking of, maybe a yearbook, but I’ll never forget your smile and beautiful spirit. My heart aches thinking of the loss to the world without you." Bob Hardy added, "That is sad news, pass on my condolences to his family."
Kody’s funeral service is scheduled for May 31st at 1 PM at Springfield Funeral Home in Kelowna. Following the service, family and friends will gather at Freddy’s Brewpub to share stories and celebrate his life. The community is encouraged to support the family during this difficult time by contributing to the fundraiser or sharing memories of Kody.
Kody will always be remembered as a loving husband, dedicated father, supportive brother, caring son, and admired friend. His laughter, love, kindness, and strength will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
