The late Kirk Haywood was from Bolingbrook, Illinois. The community and his friends are mourning his loss and coming together to support his final expenses and memorial arrangements. Kirk, a beloved former defensive back for the Dupage Eagles, passed away on Wednesday, June 12th, surrounded by his family and close friends.
A GoFundMe campaign has been organized by John Koester and Sue Berg to raise funds for Kirk’s final expenses and memorial. So far, they have raised $50 out of a $10,000 goal. The campaign describes the heartbreak of losing Kirk and the current lack of details about his services. Instead, they are planning a "Celebration of Life" in July.
Sue Berg expressed her sorrow on Facebook, sharing, "RIP to one of my long-time friends. The laughs will always be remembered. RIP Kirk Haywood. Play nice with your Eagle teammates. You will be missed!" Many others also shared their condolences and memories of Kirk. Maine Prince reminisced, "Say what…. strongest looking defensive back in the league back in the day… such a great hearted teammate and friend… just talked to him last week about coming to Canton in August… my football journey… and just life after football… God must…"
Eddie Mc Kinnie remembered a recent encounter, "Saw him a few years ago at the Red Lobster in Matteson. Man this is sad news." Shawna Boyce sent her condolences to Sue, saying, "So sorry for your loss, Sue. May your memories be of comfort to you and his family." Other friends and acquaintances like Mary Maenle, Michelle Macino Lawler, and Ruth Cokenower-Bowen also expressed their sorrow and sent their support.
John Koester, a fellow Dupage Eagles teammate and organizer of the fundraiser, expressed his deep loss, stating, "Kirk will greatly be missed as my heart is broken!" The community’s response highlights the impact Kirk had on those around him and the collective effort to honor his memory and support his family during this difficult time.
