The late Kimball Lacey was from Hillier, Ontario. The community and his family are deeply saddened by his sudden passing on June 25th at the age of 56 from heart failure. Kimball’s death has left his devoted wife, Liz, and their three children in shock and devastation. As the co-owner and winemaker of Lacey Estates Winery, Kimball was a respected and beloved figure in Prince Edward County and beyond.
Kimball was known for his selflessness and willingness to help others, whether it was plowing neighbors’ driveways after a storm or lending a hand at other wineries. He generously shared his knowledge and was actively involved in the Rotary Club of Wellington and the Wellington Food Bank.
Kimball’s unexpected death has put his family in a precarious financial situation, as the winery was their sole source of income. This uncertainty threatens the future of both the vineyard and the winery. To support the family during this difficult time, a GoFundMe campaign has been organized by Lisa Lacey Liscoumb, aiming to raise $30,000 for funeral costs and daily expenses.
The campaign has seen an outpouring of support from the community, with donations from individuals like Luc Bouchard, Jo Barnes, and Rebecca Mackenzie. As of now, $1,075 CAD has been raised from eight donations. This collective effort underscores the community’s commitment to honoring Kimball’s legacy and supporting his family in their time of need.
Expressions of sympathy and support have flooded in, with Battista Calvieri and Cindy Main Flynn among those sharing their condolences on social media. The Lacey family invites friends and community members to join them in celebrating Kimball’s life on Sunday, July 14th at Closson Chase Vineyards.
The community’s generosity and solidarity during this challenging time highlight the profound impact Kimball had on those around him and the vital role of collective support in times of loss.
