Kenneth Bergenstein, a beloved member of the Grafton community, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. His sister, Kathy Bergenstein, has been organizing efforts to honor his final wishes, including a GoFundMe campaign titled "Support Kenneth’s Final Wishes."
Kenneth had been battling severe health issues for a long time. Despite the family’s hopes and prayers, his condition worsened, leading them to make the difficult decision of placing him in hospice care. His sister, Kathy, has shared that Kenneth’s body had begun to give up, despite his strong spirit.
Kenneth was known for his love of baking, cooking, woodworking, sewing, photography, and graphic design. After the passing of their mother, Kenneth took over the responsibility of holiday dinners and family gatherings, ensuring that traditions were kept alive.
The Bergenstein family has faced significant financial challenges due to Kenneth’s extensive medical care, which exhausted their resources. Without life insurance, they are now struggling to cover his funeral expenses. Kathy Bergenstein is seeking support to fulfill Kenneth’s wish to be buried, ideally with their mother, although cremation is also being considered due to financial constraints.
The GoFundMe campaign has raised $1,485 out of a $5,000 goal, with 27 donations. Notable contributions include $100 from Kara Coleman, both as the most recent and top donation, and the first donation of $25 from Amy Ulisky.
Crystal Lesle, a close friend, shared on Facebook, "This will be my last time sharing this. Dad passed peacefully surrounded by family earlier today. Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly, but payment is due by Sunday. Thank you to everyone who has already shared and donated. If you can find it in your heart to help out please do. My family has been amazed by the outpouring of support. We love you all."
Tiffany Bowes also expressed her condolences, "I’m so incredibly sorry! I love you. Let me know if you need anything."
The community’s support has been a source of comfort to the Bergenstein family during this difficult time. They remain hopeful that they will be able to honor Kenneth’s final wishes and lay him to rest with the dignity he deserves.
