The late Kedrayn Blueford was from Montgomery. The community and his family are struggling to prepare his burial and honor his memory, making this news devastating. Kedrayn’s family, with T Mays and Barbara Mays organizing, is fundraising for his funeral and related expenses.
Kedrayn, who was just 21 years old, tragically lost his life due to actions by the Montgomery police department. Known for his kind heart, humbleness, and nurturing personality, Kedrayn was a beloved figure despite his mental health challenges and disability. His aspirations included going to college, learning to read, starting a career, and living a normal life. He enjoyed simple pleasures such as walking by the lake, biking, watching movies, playing video games, and spending time with his family.
On May 24, 2024, as Kedrayn prepared to celebrate his younger sister’s graduation, an incident with a family member led to the police being called to deescalate the situation and transport him to a mental health hospital. Unfortunately, the intervention by the police resulted in the use of lethal and excessive force, leading to Kedrayn’s untimely death.
To honor Kedrayn’s memory and raise awareness about mental health issues, the family has created a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $13,000. The funds will support funeral arrangements, legal expenses, and advocacy for better training and education for dealing with individuals with mental health challenges.
"Justice for Kedrayn: Help honor his memory," the fundraiser’s title, reflects the family’s desire to seek justice and bring attention to the broader issues surrounding mental health and police intervention. As of now, the campaign has raised $250 from one anonymous donor.
