The late Alex Zunun’s mother from Springfield, Massachusetts, has recently passed away. Alex is organizing a fundraiser to honor his mother’s last journey and fulfill her final wish to be buried in Chiapas, Mexico, next to her parents. This comes after her long battle with cancer, which tragically ended on June 18th.
Alex shared that his mother began her cancer journey with breast cancer, showing promising signs of recovery initially. Unfortunately, the cancer returned aggressively, spreading to her lungs, liver, bones, and eventually her brain. Despite her suffering, she remained a devoted mother, consistently caring for her family, attending church, and embracing her Christian faith.
Alex fondly remembers the cherished moments with his mother, from her making pancakes to their trips to the store where she would buy him toy cars. These simple yet meaningful memories, including birthday tamales and her support of his painting hobby, highlight her love and dedication to her family.
In her honor, Alex has set up a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $12,000 to cover the costs of transporting her body to Mexico and holding funeral services both in the US and Mexico. As of now, the fundraiser has raised $946 with contributions from 19 donors, including a top donation of $300 from an anonymous donor and the first donation of $50 from Samone Parker.
Alex expressed his deep gratitude for any support received, as this will help him honor his mother’s wishes and give her the peace she sought in her final resting place.
