The late Joselin and Miguel were tragically lost in an accident while returning to Kenner from Warren County, Mississippi. The community and their families are devastated by this news, especially as they were beloved individuals and integral parts of their social circles. Astrid Garcia, a close friend, is organizing a fundraiser to support their families and the sole survivor, Alex, who is recovering from significant injuries.
Joselin, Alex’s girlfriend, was pregnant with their first child, and Miguel was Joselin’s older brother. The accident not only claimed their lives but left Alex with a fractured femur and other injuries that will prevent him from walking for several months. This tragedy has left Alex without his loved ones and facing a long road to recovery.
Astrid Garcia has set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise $25,000 to cover funeral and flight expenses to send Joselin and Miguel’s bodies back to their families in Guatemala. The funds will also assist Alex during his recovery period. As of today, $210 has been raised, with contributions from Astrid herself and two anonymous donors.
In her heartfelt Facebook post, Astrid shared, “These two beautiful souls were lost in a tragic accident on their way back to Kenner from Warren County, Mississippi. We’re collecting donations to be able to send them to their families in Guatemala to support their sole survivor of this accident, Alex. These donations will also help Alex while he is home recovering from a fracture femur and other minor injuries, as he will be unable to walk for a few months.”
The community is rallying together to support this cause, with donations being accepted at local businesses like La Placita #1, Baja Nola MexiCajun, Joana’s Hair Studio, and through Cashapp and Zelle. Despite the early stages of the fundraising effort, the outpouring of support reflects the deep impact Joselin and Miguel had on those around them.
This fundraising effort underscores the necessity of community support in times of unexpected tragedy and highlights the profound challenges faced by families when dealing with such losses.
