Jose Alfonso Flores Castillo tragically passed away on April 22, 2024, in Oklahoma. His untimely death, resulting from a severe depression that led him to take his own life, has left his family and community in grief. Currently, a fundraising effort is underway to transport his body back to Salamanca, Gto, his birthplace, allowing his wife and children to bid him a final farewell.
Karla Daniela Medina Flores, Jose Alfonso’s niece, initiated a GoFundMe campaign shortly after his passing to cover the expenses of his repatriation and burial. The fundraiser has set a goal of $9,000, of which $425 has been raised through five donations as of April 24th, 2024. Significant contributors include Leonor Mosqueda and Agustin Rodriguez, who donated $100 and $200 respectively.
Xavi Castillo Maya, a family member, has also taken to Facebook to seek support, expressing deep gratitude for any assistance provided. “Hello everyone, I come here to ask you a great favor, that if this is in your possibilities could help us with a small donation to be able to take the body of my cousin to his land and that his daughters and family can see him for the last time and give him a Christian grave near his own,” he wrote. This plea highlights the family’s desperate need to bring closure to this tragic event while honoring Jose Alfonso’s life in the presence of his loved ones.
The community’s response, although modest, is a poignant reminder of the compassion that binds people together during such sorrowful times. The Flores Castillo family continues to appeal to the public’s generosity to reach their financial goal and fulfill Jose Alfonso’s last rites as they navigate through this painful period.
