The late Jordan Jaekel was from Orono, Minnesota. On Monday, May 20th, Orono unexpectedly lost its beloved Superfan, Jordan Jaekel. The community and his family are struggling to cope with his sudden passing.
Jordan was a 2018 graduate of Orono High School and a talented ping pong player. Known for his unwavering support of Orono Athletics, he was a fixture at both men’s and women’s games, easily recognizable in his cowboy hat and carrying vinyl records. His passion for music was evident as he could recite lyrics and discuss musical details while cheering on his teams.
"Jordan Jaekel was a beautiful soul loved by many. We’re praying that he has found peace. He will be so desperately missed," shared Northern Tool Guy on Facebook.
Sally Engebretson has organized a GoFundMe campaign titled "Honoring Orono’s Superfan Jordan Jaekel" to help the family with funeral expenses or to build a memorial in his honor. As of today, $200 has been raised out of the $10,000 goal.
Brenda Schaffer, expressing her condolences, wrote, "So very sorry for your loss Brenda. Prayers for peace and comfort." Saundra Larsen added, "Brenda my most sincere, and deepest, sympathies to you and your family."
Jordan’s love for his family, music, ships of the Great Lakes, and the Orono community shone through in all his interactions. Despite facing Autism, his strengths in love, loyalty, and consistency made him a cherished member of the community.
Donna Brubaker reminisced, "I’m sure some of you have seen or talked ships with Jordan and his orange sweatshirt… yesterday we lost Jordan and would share a picture and his favorite salute…"
The fundraiser aims to alleviate the family’s financial burden and honor Jordan’s generous and loving spirit. Amy Jonson reflected, "Oh my… This is such a loss…my heart is broken for you and so very much for Diane. I LOVED his boats too."
Jordan Jaekel’s legacy as Orono’s Superfan and his impact on those around him will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
