John Collins, a beloved member of the Wellsburg community, has been facing a devastating battle with stage 4 colon cancer. Diagnosed on May 6, 2024, the cancer has spread to his liver and lungs. Despite efforts to start chemotherapy, John’s health rapidly declined. He has been dealing with multiple complications, including double pneumonia, congestive heart failure, anemia, and sepsis. Recently, he had to undergo the amputation of a toe due to a blockage.
Marsha Bassett, John’s wife, has organized a fundraiser titled "Help Ease John’s Journey Home" to support their family during this difficult time. The goal is to raise $20,000, but as of now, only $310 has been raised. Marsha’s heartfelt plea describes the overwhelming situation they are facing, with John now being sent home with hospice care.
The community has shown some support through donations, with contributors like Shaun Kusich and Joseph Haught giving $100 each. Friends and family have also expressed their sorrow and support on social media. Rebecca Dostal shared a touching message from John Collins, encouraging her to find her light amidst her struggles. Jo Lammers and Jade Neil also offered words of comfort, highlighting Rebecca’s positive impact on their lives.
Marsha’s fundraiser emphasizes the urgent need for prayers and support to ensure John’s comfort in his final days. This situation highlights the emotional and financial burdens that serious illnesses can place on families and the importance of community support in times of crisis.
