Joe Ledford, a beloved member of the McAlester community, passed away on Thursday night, June 20th, after a recent diagnosis of terminal pancreatic cancer. His death has left his family and friends in deep mourning.
Joe was known for his kind heart and generosity. "He was the sweetest guy that would give you the shirt off his back," shared Carrie Patrick, a fellow member of the MHS Class of 1981, on Facebook. She asked for prayers for Joe’s family and friends, emphasizing how much he will be missed.
Other members of the community also expressed their sorrow and shared their condolences. Tami Peters offered prayers for Joe’s family, friends, and classmates. KL Creason mentioned how sad the news made them, noting that Joe was "so cool." John Merriman simply wrote, "RIP Joe Ledford," reflecting the somber mood of many.
Virginia Rogers shared a personal connection, stating, "He was a great friend to my brother John Ford and my son Jeremy Scott Rogers. They are all three gone now." This comment highlights the sense of loss felt by those who knew Joe well. Leann Grippando and Jim Elliott also sent their prayers, showing the community’s support during this difficult time.
In response to Joe’s passing, Jake Daniels organized a fundraiser to support the family with funeral expenses. The campaign, titled "Support Joe’s Family in Their Time of Need," has raised $1,270 out of a $7,000 goal so far. Donations have come from various individuals, with the most significant contribution of $200 coming from an anonymous donor.
Jake Daniels wrote on the fundraiser page, "Our father, Joe Ledford, recently passed from pancreatic cancer. Joe was a wonderful father, son, brother, cousin, and friend to the many people he met throughout his life. We have been devastated by the loss of our father due to the quick nature of the cancer and we were not prepared for the cost of the funeral. We loved our father very much and want to give him the memorial service that he deserves."
The community’s response, both in terms of emotional support and financial contributions, illustrates the impact Joe Ledford had on those around him. His legacy of kindness and generosity will be remembered by many.
