The late Javontee Brice, aged 28, left an indelible mark on Manatee County, Florida, with a series of tragic events that unfolded on the evening of June 24, 2024.
Javontee Brice’s violent spree began around 9 p.m. when he visited the Palmetto Trace Apartments, where his sister and one of his ex-girlfriends lived. Inside the apartment, Brice threatened his ex-girlfriend, saying, "I have to kill you." His sister managed to dissuade him, and he left.
Shortly after, at 9:15 p.m., Brice went to the Motel 6 on 68th Street Circle East in Bradenton, where his mother, 48-year-old Titynisha "Pie" Warrick, her boyfriend, and two youngest daughters were staying. He walked in, apologized to his mother, and then shot her three times before fleeing the scene.
Around 9:40 p.m., deputies responded to another incident in the 900 block of 26th Street Court East in Palmetto. There, they found 29-year-old Sacouya "Coyaa" Brice, Brice’s cousin, suffering from gunshot wounds inside an SUV leaving a cookout. Despite life-saving efforts by the deputies, Sacouya Brice succumbed to her injuries.
Brice’s rampage continued, and by 10 p.m., deputies were called to 4800 51st Street East in Bradenton. This was the home of another of Brice’s ex-girlfriends. Brice had shot her partner, Kyla D. Blackmon, also known as SouljiPigg Carter, who later died at a local hospital.
The events reached a climax around 12:55 a.m. when deputies spotted Brice’s car traveling northbound on Interstate 75. A female was also in the car. During a felony traffic stop at an Exxon parking lot in Jasper, near the Georgia state line, Brice exited the vehicle and opened fire on the officers, who returned fire, fatally wounding him. The female in the car is not facing charges.
Javontee Brice’s actions have left a community in shock and mourning. He is believed to have been the father of twelve children. In the aftermath, Timothy Brice has organized a GoFundMe campaign titled "Tribute and Support for the Brice Family in Tragic Aftermath," aiming to raise $21,000 to support the victims’ families.
Tracey Williams shared her grief on Facebook, writing, "My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to the families and friends of the deceased. Mental health is so important, I hate this for everybody involved and everyone this is going to affect especially those babies, my God. Rest in peace Pie, Coya & Pig. To Brice, may God have mercy."
This devastating series of events underscores the urgent need for mental health awareness and support, as the community grapples with the loss and seeks to support the surviving family members.
