James (Jim) Weishuhn, from Gibsonburg, Ohio, tragically passed away on April 12, 2024, in a fatal accident involving one of his military vehicles. Jim was attempting to remove a stuck bolt from his m1165 vehicle, which he had lifted on jack stands in the rear only. The added weight of a fabricated all-steel ibis tech bumper on the front caused a counterbalance shift, leading the vehicle to rock and tip the jack stands, crushing him instantly. His son was next to him and witnessed the tragic incident.
Jim’s death has left a significant impact on his family and friends. Erik Hill, one of Jim’s best friends, shared on Facebook, “Jim was the reason I have a HMMWV and this amazing hobby. I meant to get this out there sooner, but with helping the family with all the final affairs, including running his booth at the Findlay military show, I have been nonstop.”
The accident has not only devastated the family emotionally but also financially. Jim’s son, Ian Weishuhn, was let go from his job shortly after the accident due to absences beyond his control. Ian, now without insurance, has four children who rely on him as a provider. Erik Hill has organized a GoFundMe campaign to support Ian and his family, raising funds to cover rent, bills, and treatment for PTSD. As of now, the fundraiser has raised $225 out of a $5,000 goal.
Charles L. Thompson, another friend, and fellow community member, also expressed his condolences and urged the community to support the fundraiser, highlighting the generous spirit Jim exhibited during his life.
The family is deeply grateful for any assistance during this challenging time, as they navigate the aftermath of this tragic loss.
