The late Jacqueline Kathleen Williams, affectionately known as Jaci, tragically passed away on Thursday, May 30th. Jaci’s untimely death has left her family and community in deep mourning. A GoFundMe campaign, organized by her aunt Sherry DuChateau, is seeking support for her legacy and her family during this difficult time.
Jaci’s final days were marked by a heart-wrenching medical journey that began over Memorial Day weekend during a family camping trip in Wisconsin Rapids. She had been experiencing severe headaches, attributed to her history of migraines, and was referred to the Mayo Clinic by her neurologist. Despite receiving treatment at an emergency room, her condition worsened. On Sunday morning, Jaci suffered from excruciating headaches and severe nausea, leading her husband Mike to rush her back to the ER. After becoming unresponsive, a CT scan revealed acute and severe brain swelling, necessitating her transfer to UW-Madison Hospital.
Upon arrival, additional scans confirmed that Jaci had been deprived of oxygen to her brain for several hours, resulting in brain death. Her family, informed of the devastating prognosis, made the courageous decision to honor Jaci’s wishes as a registered organ donor. Her organs provided life-saving transplants for others, a silver lining in the midst of their immense grief.
Jaci’s legacy was honored with an Honor Walk, where hospital staff and her immediate family lined the halls from her ICU room to the Operating Room. Her husband, Mike, and their sons, Jayden and Dylan, alongside other family members, supported her through this selfless act, highlighting her heroic nature.
Katie Lee, a friend of Jaci, expressed her sorrow on Facebook, saying, "Jaci Williams, you were such an incredible soul and it makes me so sad that you were taken so soon. We will never understand God’s timing. But I pray for comfort and healing for your husband, kiddos, and family during this difficult time."
Jaci had been excited about moving into a new home in Wisconsin Rapids on June 10th, a dream she had been eagerly planning and anticipating. Her family is determined to keep her dreams alive, promising to continue the projects she envisioned for their forever home.
The GoFundMe campaign has raised $1,565 of its $10,000 goal, with contributions from donors like Amanda Bonke, who made the top donation of $500. The funds will help cover medical bills and support Jayden and Dylan in their future endeavors in the arts and trades.
The family plans to hold a celebration of Jaci’s life at her happy place in Wisconsin Rapids for the immediate family and another in Milwaukee for a broader audience. The community’s support has been a source of strength for them as they navigate this profound loss.
Jaci’s story is a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring impact one person can have on others. Her legacy of love, courage, and generosity will continue to inspire those who knew her.
