The late Iman McShepherd, from Brooklyn, New York, passed away on June 16th, 2024, at the age of 42. Her death has left her family and friends in deep mourning. Iman was a beloved mother, sister, and friend known for her genuine, caring, and loyal nature. She had an unwavering dedication to her daughter, Iyanna, who is set to graduate high school in 2025 and plans to attend college.
To honor Iman’s memory and support Iyanna’s future, a fundraiser has been organized by Inga Wedderburn. The goal is to raise $25,000 to contribute to a 529 Plan for Iyanna’s educational and living expenses. Inga expressed the community’s commitment to ensuring Iyanna can pursue her dreams, reflecting the love and support Iman always showed to others.
The community will also gather for a balloon release in Iman’s memory, organized by Candice Davis. The event will take place at the Dumbo Pier near Jane’s Carousel in Brooklyn, where attendees will release balloons in Iman’s favorite colors: red, white, and emerald green.
As Candice Davis shared on Facebook, "As the family privately mourns the passing of our dear Iman McShepherd, we ask you all to join us tomorrow in a loving tribute to Iman with a balloon release. She was loved as much as there are stars in the sky."
Others have also shared their condolences and prayers on social media. Mel May wrote, "Hate I can’t be there. Rest in peace Iman," while Jason L. Brooks commented, "You have my prayers." Letitia Bouie added, "God bless you and your family."
The community’s collective effort to support Iyanna and remember Iman exemplifies the impact she had on those around her. Through these acts of kindness and solidarity, Iman’s legacy of love and compassion will continue to live on.
