The late Gregorio Santos Jr. was from Seffner, Florida. Gregorio, affectionately known as Greg, battled a series of severe health challenges throughout his life, culminating in a fight against cancer that tragically ended on June 15, 2024. His cousin, Esmeralda Espinoza, has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help cover his funeral expenses and honor his memory.
Greg, who was 24 years old, had a difficult health history from birth, undergoing surgery for twisted intestines immediately after he was born. In October 2023, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, which later developed into germ cell cancer (G-U). This aggressive form of cancer required immediate chemotherapy, a battle that Greg courageously fought until June 2024.
During his treatment, Greg endured significant physical and emotional changes, losing his hair and feeling increasingly numb due to the harsh effects of chemotherapy. On January 12, 2024, he experienced a severe seizure at home, witnessed by his mother, leading to his hospitalization. Despite multiple seizures and a CT scan revealing a mass in his frontal left lobe, he was transferred to Tampa General for further treatment. An MRI confirmed that the cancer had spread to his brain.
After undergoing open-head surgery to remove the tumor, Greg continued with chemotherapy. Unfortunately, the treatment was ineffective, and the cancer metastasized to his lungs, liver, kidneys, spinal bone marrow, and throat. On June 15, 2024, at 7:52 PM, Gregorio Santos Jr. was declared deceased.
Esmeralda Espinoza, his cousin, has organized a fundraiser to help the Santos family afford the costs of his funeral. She describes Greg’s lifelong health struggles and his final battle against cancer, urging the community to support them in this time of need. The GoFundMe campaign has raised $25 of the $8,500 goal so far, with donations trickling in.
Esmeralda shares, “Please share, anything helps the family in a time of need.” This sentiment echoes the urgent need for collective support to give Greg the proper farewell he deserves.
Kenneth Spalter, an early supporter, donated $25, underscoring the importance of community contributions in times of grief. The Santos family is deeply grateful for any assistance as they mourn the loss of their beloved brother and son, Gregorio Santos Jr.
