The late George B. Butt, a Tech/5 from Company H&S of the 111th Engineer Combat Battalion, was one of the brave American soldiers who defended the village of Bonlieu-sur-Roubion on August 25, 1944. Tragically, he was among the eight soldiers killed during a large-scale German assault on the village. Despite being understrength and overwhelmed, George and his comrades fought valiantly to protect Bonlieu-sur-Roubion.
To honor the memory and courage of George B. Butt and his fellow soldiers, the DROME44 association from Savasse is organizing a project to place a commemorative plaque in their honor. This plaque will be inaugurated on August 25, 2024, during a ceremony featuring re-enactors, American collection vehicles, and a wreath-laying.
Vincent Garret is leading the fundraising efforts for this project, aiming to raise €500 to ensure the sacrifices of George B. Butt and the other soldiers are not forgotten. The community is encouraged to support this initiative to preserve the history and valor of these heroes.
