The late Gavin Frey, a recent graduate of Central Mountain, tragically lost his life on June 22, 2024, while swimming in the river, an activity he had enjoyed many times before. His sudden and unexpected death has left his family and friends in shock and mourning.
Candy Alexander, a close family friend, has organized a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the funeral expenses and ease the financial burden on Gavin’s family. The fundraiser, titled "Help Ease the Burden for Gavin’s Family," aims to raise $10,000. As of today, the campaign has raised $360 from six donations, with contributions from individuals such as Taylor Casilio ($100), Harley Confer ($20), Adrionna Askins ($20), Colten Etters ($100), and Diana Andrus ($20).
Gavin was known for his ambition and zest for life. He had just graduated high school, worked to buy his first car, and passed his driver’s exam, marking the beginning of what was supposed to be a bright future. His passing has deeply affected those who knew him, as evidenced by the outpouring of support and condolences on social media.
Bucktail Bucks Fanatics, a local community group, posted, "Bucktail family, if you are able, please consider helping this family as Gavin Frey was a recent grad of Central Mountain." This sentiment is echoed by many others who have shared their memories and expressions of grief online.
Candy Alexander, in her heartfelt message on the GoFundMe page, wrote, "Hello, my name is Candy. My family and I are very close friends (like family) with Gavin’s family, and we all would like to help out with the cost of the funeral. This was a very unexpected and devastating accident, and the family was not in any way prepared for it along with all the extra costs. No family should have to deal with the loss of a son and the cost that it brings. They need time to grieve without worrying about the cost."
Gavin’s death serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of community support during such tragic times. The fundraiser reflects a collective effort to honor Gavin’s memory and support his grieving family, underscoring the compassion and solidarity within the community.
