Fabrice Matthew Robelin, a 19-year-old from Powder Springs, Georgia, tragically lost his life in a senseless shooting incident on May 8, 2024, during a dispute among teenagers in his neighborhood. Matthew had recently completed his first semester of college with aspirations of becoming an electrician. Originally from Orlando, he had moved to Cobb County as an infant and graduated from McEachern High School in 2023.
The devastating news has left Matthew’s family, including his mother, whom friends describe as a "sweet lady," grappling with profound grief and the sudden financial burden of funeral expenses. In response, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated by Alexis Rogers to help the Cherenfant-Robelin family cope with the costs and honor Matthew’s memory. The campaign aims to raise $5,000, and as of today, it has collected $740 through 18 donations.
Expressing her sorrow on Facebook, Alexis Stevens, a friend of the family, remarked, "The younger brother of Ava’s ‘big brother’ in the UGA Redcoats was killed last week in a senseless shooting in Powder Springs. He was only 19. Matthew and Josh’s mother is such a sweet lady, and I’m heartbroken for her and everyone who loved this young man. It’s beyond time we find a way to keep semi-automatic weapons out of kids’ hands."
Another commenter, Elizabeth Hope, shared her condolences, saying, "So sad. I’m so sorry for him and his family."
The community and the family are rallying around the fundraiser, appealing for support to not only cover the funeral costs but also to commemorate a life tragically cut short. Matthew’s ambitions and his family’s current plight underscore the urgency and necessity of the support they need.
