Evan Albert Stokowski passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024, following a tragic event on June 4th that ultimately led to the end of his life. This heartbreaking loss came just weeks after he married the love of his life, Alexa Morrison Stokowski, turning what was supposed to be the beginning of their new life together into a period of immense grief.
A GoFundMe campaign has been organized by his sister-in-law, Kadie Stokowski, to help alleviate funeral expenses and support his new wife and family during this unexpectedly difficult time. The fundraiser has raised $3,230 out of a $20,000 target, with donations from 30 people, including Carole Smolinski, who gave $100, Susan Abbondanza, who contributed $300, and an anonymous donor who gave the first $200.
Alexa Morrison-Stokowski shared her deep sorrow on Facebook, writing, "It is with a heavy heart to say, our world got a bit dimmer this past week after losing Evan. He never met a stranger, which gave me more social anxiety than I’d like to admit, but also gave me some of my favorite and most memorable moments. I will miss your baseball stories, your pizza critiques, your texts every morning reminding me to set my lineups, and hearing you talk to the cats when you thought I couldn’t hear you." She also mentioned the upcoming celebration of Evan’s life, scheduled for Wednesday, June 26th, at the Irish Cultural Center on Morgan Road in West Springfield, MA.
The news of Evan’s passing has deeply affected many, with numerous friends, family members, colleagues, and former teammates expressing their condolences and sharing memories. Ashley Boucher, a college friend, wrote, "Evan was a great friend of mine in college, and I lost my husband 2 years ago now. If you need anyone to talk to or anything at all to navigate this insanely horrible time, I’m here." Kimberly Searles, a former coworker, shared, "He was wise beyond his years and one of the nicest people you could have ever met. My heart goes out to his family and close friends during this unimaginable time."
Many others echoed similar sentiments, highlighting Evan’s kindness, his ever-present smile, and the positive impact he had on those around him. Wanda Davis remembered him as "always smiling and ready to say hi and catch up," while Bob Tarpey noted, "He was always smiling and no one worked harder. He would give anyone the shirt off his back. Such a genuinely kind person. He will be missed."
Evan’s celebration of life will be a moment for friends and family to gather and remember the joy and love he brought into their lives. The Stokowski family expressed their gratitude for the support they have received and remain hopeful that they will get through this difficult loss one day at a time.
