The late Emmanuel Etienne, originally from Cap-Haitien, Haiti, tragically passed away on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024, at the age of 41. His sudden heart attack occurred on his first day of work at a construction job in the Bronx, which had been a beacon of hope for him and his family.
Emmanuel’s journey to the United States began in May 2023, when he and his cousin Renel were approved to come to America through the Biden Program. This opportunity was a significant relief for his family, especially his mother and two young children, aged 3 and 5, who remained in Haiti.
Emmanuel’s transition to the United States was marked by hardships, as finding employment proved challenging. However, just a week before his untimely death, he received the uplifting news that a family friend had secured a job for him in the Bronx. Excited about this new beginning, he prepared eagerly the night before, only to face tragedy on his first day.
On the morning of May 23rd, Emmanuel left his home in Canarsie, Brooklyn, at 5:30 A.M. to meet his new employer. Tragically, he collapsed while being shown around the job site. Despite immediate efforts by his co-worker and emergency responders, Emmanuel passed away at Allen Hospital later that day.
In response to this heartbreaking event, his cousin Shamelle Cabral has organized a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses. The goal is to raise $20,000 to ensure Emmanuel receives a dignified farewell. So far, $100 has been raised, and the family is seeking support from the community during this difficult time. Shamelle expresses her heartfelt gratitude to anyone who can contribute to honoring Emmanuel’s memory and supporting his grieving family.
