Emily Tropeano passed away unexpectedly on June 18, 2024, at the age of 18. Her untimely death has left her family and the community in mourning. Emily was a recent graduate of Carbondale Area High School, where she achieved academic honors and was actively involved in the cheerleading squad. She had been accepted to the University of Scranton to major in Criminal Justice and was awarded the Loyola Scholarship for her academic excellence.
The Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office is currently seeking donations to support Emily’s family during this difficult time. Emily was the daughter of Kelly Moran, an employee at the District Attorney’s Office, and her husband, John Moran.
A fundraiser organized by Michelle Mancuso on behalf of Kelly Moran has been set up to assist the family with funeral and other incidental expenses. As of now, $23,390 has been raised out of the $25,000 goal, with 406 donations.
The outpouring of support on social media has been significant. Kathleen Kelly Halverson expressed her sorrow and urged others to support the fundraiser, stating, "Please consider supporting my cousin and her family during this incredibly difficult time. My cousin lost her daughter. My godmother lost her granddaughter. And the world lost a vibrant, brilliant, beautiful light way too soon. Rest in peace, dear Emily. Gone too soon but forever in our family’s hearts."
Joy Trapani Doughton shared her condolences: "I am so sorry to hear this sad news! Sending love & prayers to all!" Similarly, Grace Ann Hogan commented, "So sorry for your loss. Sending prayers."
Many others echoed their sympathies and support:

- "This is truly tragic. Keeping you all in my prayers," added Dana Lindemuth.
- "Oh Kath! Hugs. Much much too soon. How heartbreaking," lamented Melissa Ehrenreich.
Emily was remembered as a beautiful, smart, loyal, and vibrant member of her family and community. The fundraiser reflects the collective grief and solidarity of the community, aiming to ease the financial burden on Emily’s family during this time of profound loss.
