Emily Stokes, a 17-year-old from Margate, tragically passed away from an overdose after being spiked last night. Her sister, Megan Stokes, is organizing a fundraiser to give Emily the send-off she deserves. The GoFundMe campaign, created today, has raised £618 of its £3,000 goal with contributions from 35 donors.
Megan Stokes expressed her grief and love for her sister in the fundraiser description: "Emily was the kindest person you could ever meet; she was so full of life. To have her taken away so suddenly has completely broken me, and it breaks my heart that we may not be able to give her the send-off she would’ve wanted. So, I’ve set this up to hopefully give her the best send-off."
The community has shown overwhelming support. Victoria Weston, the top donor, contributed £100, while Andrew Chapman made a recent donation of £25. Ash Dowding was the first to donate £20.
On Facebook, many have shared their condolences and memories of Emily. Julia Ward posted, "Rest in peace Emily Stokes, beautiful angel, please watch over your mummy Kathleen Mongan and your sister Megan Stokes. Very sorry for your loss." Mary Stokes added, "Rip angel God rest."
Other heartfelt messages include Muirchertach Brónach’s "God bless her," and Emma Louise Goddard’s "OMG R.I.P beautiful girl gone too soon. Thinking of Kathleen Mongan and family circle. God’s garden must be beautiful; he only picks the best." The outpouring of support underscores the deep impact Emily had on those who knew her.
Megan’s fundraiser is not just about the financial aspect but also a way to honor Emily’s memory and ensure she gets the farewell she deserves. The family is hopeful that with the community’s continued support, they will reach their goal and provide Emily with a fitting tribute.
