The late Elizabeth Marie Fontan was from York, Pennsylvania. The community and her family are struggling to fulfill her dying wish of being cremated and having her remains buried next to their father. Elizabeth’s brother, Jeremiah Fontan, is organizing a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her cremation and burial costs.
Jeremiah shared on the fundraiser page, "I know word of my little sister’s passing has gotten around by the outpouring of love and support my family has been receiving the past couple of days. My sister impacted many people in her short time on this worldly plane." The fundraiser has a goal of $3,500, of which $125 has been raised so far from three donations. The donations include $75 from an anonymous donor, $25 from Christina Henry, and $25 from Carla Ritter.
Leia Armold, Elizabeth’s cousin, expressed her grief on Facebook, writing, "As to some of you don’t know, I lost my cousin this week. I’m still at a loss of words and this is one of the hardest things I will have to do. Nothing hurts worse than losing a family member! I miss her like crazy already! My family needs your thoughts and prayers! If you can, please help my family out! Rest in peace, Lizzy."
Other expressions of condolences have been pouring in on social media. Andrea Noel commented, "Sorry for your loss, thinking of you and your family." Denice Harget added, "So sorry for your loss." Mary T. Foti reflected, "I am so sorry for your loss. Hugs! Yes, nothing compares to losing a family member, especially someone so young as her."
Despite the heartbreak, the community’s support has been a source of solace for the Fontan family. The fundraising effort highlights the collective need to come together in times of crisis and the often significant financial burdens families face when fulfilling the final wishes of their loved ones.
