The late Draven Keeton, a seven-year-old boy from Trinity, Texas, passed away after a prolonged battle with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. His story has touched many, as he was affectionately known as a "Heart Warrior" by his family and community. Draven’s journey was marked by incredible resilience and strength, having undergone a heart transplant at just five months old and enduring numerous medical challenges throughout his young life.
Draven’s health began to deteriorate earlier this year after his family moved to Florida. Despite assurances that his medical needs would be met, complications arose when his insurance was not accepted by his new doctors. Consequently, Draven received inadequate doses of his crucial rejection medications, leading to severe health issues. Despite his mother’s persistent concerns, he was misdiagnosed with a virus. Tragically, on May 22, Draven was rushed to a hospital where it was discovered he was in full-blown rejection. He was life-flighted to a children’s hospital, but he passed away on May 23, 2024, before his parents could reach him.
A GoFundMe campaign, organized by his godmother Melinda Spillman, aims to raise funds to bring Draven’s ashes home and preserve his belongings. As of now, $20 of the $1,000 goal has been raised. The campaign highlights the financial struggles his family faces, including the urgent need to pay for a storage unit holding Draven’s baby items, which is due by July 1st.
Sayuri Keeton, Draven’s mother, expressed her heartache on Facebook, urging for help to avoid losing her son’s cherished memories. "Please every little thing helps. He is well overdue to be home. I have already lost my baby; please help us not lose all his things—his firsts, his baby book, his things," she wrote.
The community has shown support through donations and heartfelt messages. Carolyn Bacon shared her love, while Ann Marie inquired about the financial needs. Sayuri responded, explaining the total cost and the urgent situation with the storage unit. April Kelly also expressed her condolences, reflecting the collective sorrow and support from those who knew Draven.
Draven’s story is a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by families dealing with serious health issues and the importance of community support in times of need.
