The late Colby Marjerrison, a beloved naturopathic doctor from Buchans, Newfoundland and Labrador, passed away at the age of 34 on May 26th, 2024. Her passing has left a profound impact on her family, friends, and community. Colby is survived by her young daughter, Mary Marjerrison, her parents James and Thomasine Marjerrison, and her siblings Russell and Julia.
Colby’s friend, Alicia Macpherson, shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, recalling their first conversation about escaping the stress of school to live peacefully in nature. Alicia expressed her admiration for Colby’s vision to help people with mental health issues and her overwhelming love for her daughter. Alicia’s tribute poignantly captured Colby’s pure and kind spirit, stating, "What happened to you was not OK. I’m heartbroken by what you had to go through."
Dr. Colbran Elizabeth Marjerrison, as she was professionally known, achieved her dream of opening a community naturopathic clinic in Ottawa in 2018, and later in Buchans in 2021. She was dedicated to her practice and her community, leaving a lasting impact through her healing work. Colby’s passion for nature, yoga, and learning was evident in how she spent her time with her daughter, often seen at local playgrounds, libraries, and community centers.
A GoFundMe campaign organized by Ann Gomes was set up to support Colby’s daughter and cover funeral expenses. The campaign has raised $1,210 CAD of its $10,000 goal, highlighting the community’s effort to support Colby’s family during this difficult time. The fundraiser page expresses gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from the community, emphasizing how Colby’s spirit continues to inspire kindness and generosity.
Colby’s passing is mourned by many who knew her, with numerous tributes pouring in on social media. Jennifer Harper, Jillian Rebecca, and many others sent their condolences and expressed their sorrow for the loss. Paul Tonkin shared his heartbreak upon hearing the news, reminiscing about the times Colby joined them at Nectar, the New Edinburgh Community and Arts Centre, and her joyous presence at clinic Christmas parties.
Visitation for Colby was held on May 30th at Buchans United Church, followed by a Celebration of Life service on May 31st, conducted by Verley Roberts. Colby was laid to rest at Buchans Community Cemetery. The Marjerrison family expressed their profound gratitude to those who supported them, stating, "Losing her has left the biggest hole. Colby, your loss is immeasurable but so is the love you left behind. Forever in our hearts, rest in peace, our sweet Little Lovely."
Colby Marjerrison’s life, though short, was filled with compassion, dedication, and love. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and healing, deeply cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
