The late Donald Adkins was from Pahoa, Hawaii. The community and his family are struggling to prepare for his burial, as his passing was unexpected. Donald’s children have organized a fundraiser to assist his wife, Dianne, with the funeral costs.
Donald Adkins passed away on May 14th, 2024, while embarking on a trip of a lifetime with his wife, Dianne, in Rhode Island. His death came as a shock to his loved ones and the community that knew him for his huge heart and friendly nature. In his final moments, Donald was well cared for, bringing some peace to his grieving family.
To honor Donald’s memory and support Dianne during this difficult time, his children have set up a GoFundMe campaign. They aim to raise $6,000 to cover funeral expenses. As of now, $500 has been raised from four donations. Contributors include Lisa Lachance, who donated $250, Robert McWhirk with $200, Kathleen Threlfall with $25, and Deb Malloy with $25.
The family has asked for contributions to either the fundraiser or to organizations Donald cherished, such as the Pahoa Sacred Heart Parish and the Hilo Education Arts Repertory Theatre (HEART).
This fundraiser reflects a family’s attempt to cope with their sudden loss and the community’s effort to rally around them in support. Donald Adkins will be remembered as a smiley, goofy, lovable person who left a significant impact on those around him.
