The late Domenic Dugas, a beloved member of the Wissahickon community, tragically passed away on Monday, July 1st, at the young age of 17. The community and his family are devastated by his untimely death.
Domenic had just graduated from high school a few weeks ago and was eagerly anticipating a week at the beach with his favorite person, Lucy. He had plans to join the Air Force at the end of the summer, showcasing his dedication and aspirations for the future. In a final act of generosity, Domenic was an organ donor, and his gift will save many lives.
The financial burden of a memorial service is heavy on Domenic’s family. Denise Sabia has organized a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of medical bills, transporting Dom’s body from New Jersey to Pennsylvania, cremation, and other associated expenses. As of now, $2,165 has been raised out of the $12,000 goal, with 34 donations.
The community has shown an outpouring of support. Jill Falkevitz Lafferty expressed her sorrow, urging people to donate to Domenic’s memorial service. Tina L. Costello shared her heartbreak, and Lisa Adams echoed the sentiment, stating, "We’re heartbroken."
Heather Lee, Harry Turck, and Tressa Joseph are among the donors, with Harry Turck contributing $1,000 as the top donation. The family’s gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time is immeasurable.
Denise Sabia emphasized the family’s unpreparedness for such a loss, highlighting the unimaginable financial strain of burying a child. The date of the memorial service will be announced shortly, and the family appreciates any contributions and support from the community.
