The late Derenda Mitchell Lee passed away on April 25, 2024, at her residence in Maricopa, Arizona. She served two honorable tours in the Army until her discharge on January 8, 2001. Throughout her service, she earned numerous awards, including the Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), the Army Good Conduct Award Medal (3rd Award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 2, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Parachutist Badge, and the Parachute Rigger Badge.
Nancy Riddick, Derenda’s sister, is organizing a fundraiser to help preserve her sister’s memory and handle the associated costs. As of now, $510 has been raised out of the $5,000 goal through eight donations. Nancy, who lives in Edinburg, Texas, has already spent over $6,000 on attorney fees and flights to manage Derenda’s affairs. This financial burden is significant as she is living on a tight budget.
The fundraiser aims to cover the travel expenses and legal costs incurred by Nancy while dealing with her sister’s personal matters. Nancy’s efforts reflect her dedication to ensuring that Derenda’s legacy remains positive and honored.
