The late David Gray Endischee, a beloved grandfather from Navajo Mountain, Arizona, passed away on May 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. His great grandson held his pinky hours before his passing, a poignant moment that highlighted the deep familial bonds he cherished.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Bessie Webb Endischee, their five children, fourteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Known for his kindness and sense of humor, David enjoyed being surrounded by children and remained playful and joyful even in his final weeks.
Born and raised in Navajo Mountain, David dedicated 35 years to serving his community as a Grazing Committee representative. His retirement years were filled with fond memories of his work with the community and their livestock, and he found peace in knowing his sheep were well cared for. Although his exact birthdate was uncertain, with his legal birthdate recorded as June 17, 1933, his family believed he was born closer to 1928-1930.
In his last days, David placed his trust in the Lord, finding comfort in his faith. His family, now mourning their loss, has organized a GoFundMe campaign to raise $3,000 for his funeral expenses. As of today, $400 has been raised, with contributions from Deshyla Jensen ($200), Byron Myers ($100), and an anonymous donor ($100).
Caliphea Blackhorn, the organizer of the fundraiser, expressed the family’s gratitude for any support received during this difficult time. The burial will take place on May 22, 2024, at the Endischee family plot in Navajo Mountain. Friends and community members are welcome to attend and offer their condolences.
Enyal Harrak, reflecting on David’s passing, shared on Facebook, "Our beloved grandfather David Gray Endischee passed away on 05/16/24 … Caliphea Blackhorn needs your support for Funeral expenses for David Gray Endischee."
David’s life was marked by his dedication to family and community, his joyful spirit, and his unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
