The late Dave Hilton was from Hele Village, Torquay. His family and friends are struggling to raise funds for his funeral, making this a particularly challenging time. Despite paying into two Sunlife insurance plans for over 20 years, the policies have only paid out £1500, leaving the family £2200 short of the necessary amount for his funeral.
Julie Hilton, Dave’s daughter, has organized a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the remaining costs. As of today, they have raised £555 of their £2,500 goal, with 24 donations. Julie describes her father as a dedicated car enthusiast who was always willing to help others with their mechanical problems, often going out of his way, even on Christmas Day, to assist those in need.
The community has rallied around the Hilton family, with many expressing their condolences and offering support. Donna Taylor commented, “I hope Maureen gets to organise the send off that Dave deserves,” while Sara Brady wrote, “So sorry for your loss. Hope he gets a good send off.” Chelle Wray shared her frustration with Sunlife, noting, “They let the elderly overpay for years without telling them…then keep all the money.”
Other community members, like Clare Bell, offered loving thoughts to Julie and her family, stating, “Sending loving thoughts to Julie, Mo, and all the family. Donated and will share.” Caroline Weckesser remembered Dave as a lovely family man, adding, “Thinking of you all, donated and sending love and hugs.”
Jane Hughes also shared her memories of Dave, saying, “Dave was a lovely man who loved his family very much. We have donated and hope it helps. All our love to Mo and the family.”
Dave Hilton’s funeral will be held at Torquay Crematorium on Thursday, June 13th at 2:30 pm, followed by a gathering at the Engine House. The family invites anyone who wishes to pay their respects to attend both the funeral and the wake.
The outpouring of support and love from the community highlights the impact Dave had on those around him and the need for collective assistance in times of crisis.
