Danielle Renee Fortenberry (Hendrix) tragically passed away on June 11, 2024, in Gastonia, North Carolina. She was struck by an Amtrak train near Church Street. However, her family, particularly her sister Candice Fortenberry, believes there is more to the story. Candice recalls Danielle’s last days vividly, noting that Danielle mentioned being attacked but was too afraid to report it, fearing for her family’s safety. The family suspects foul play, believing she was beaten to death and then placed on the tracks, but they lack the resources to investigate further.
Danielle was homeless, a situation exacerbated by losing their grandfather’s house a year ago. Two years prior, she had been set on fire by a woman in Gastonia, an incident that profoundly impacted her. Despite these challenges, Danielle was known for her loving and kind spirit, especially towards her children and family.
Candice Fortenberry has organized a GoFundMe campaign titled "Help Fulfill Danielle’s Last Wish" to raise $13,000 for Danielle’s burial. The goal is to ensure Danielle is not cremated, honoring her wish never to be burned again after her traumatic past. The family is in a dire financial situation, struggling to cover basic expenses, let alone funeral costs. They are seeking support from the community to provide Danielle with a proper burial.
Half Pint, a friend of the family, expressed their grief on Facebook, asking for prayers and sharing their deep loss. "We are going to sorely miss Danielle. She will always be in our hearts, our minds, and our spirits," Half Pint wrote, urging others to help give Danielle the respectful farewell she deserves.
Danielle leaves behind her mother, four children, three sisters, four nephews, and three nieces. The family is heartbroken, struggling to come to terms with her untimely death and the unanswered questions surrounding it. Candice’s heartfelt plea emphasizes the community’s need to rally together during this devastating time.
