The late Daniel Axel, a resident of Menasha, Wisconsin, has passed away, leaving his family and community in deep mourning. The Rumfelt family, struggling with the unexpected funeral expenses, has turned to the community for support. A GoFundMe campaign organized by Megan Neuber aims to raise $6,200 to cover Daniel’s funeral costs, with $540 raised so far from eight donations.
Daniel’s health deteriorated rapidly after being admitted to OSF on June 1st. He was transferred to Froedtert’s Transplant ICU in Milwaukee, where he was diagnosed with severe liver and kidney failure, alongside the worst case of pancreatitis. Initially, there were signs of improvement, but his condition took a severe turn for the worse on June 14th. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, Daniel’s health continued to decline. With his pancreas and intestines dying, the family made the painful decision to remove him from life support, leading to his peaceful passing.
The community has shown an outpouring of support. David Rumfelt shared on Facebook, "I really hate to make this post; however, due to an unreliable source, we are in need of any help to cover Daniel Axel’s funeral costs. Even if you can’t donate, please just share. Thank you everyone for everything."
Jaylene Brown, one of the donors, contributed $50, expressing her sympathy for the family. Desiree Calouette donated $30, while Stephanie Bray and Haile Waters added $45 and $20, respectively. Alicia Ritmaha’s generous donation of $200 significantly boosted the fundraiser.
This fundraiser not only highlights the financial strain unexpected medical and funeral expenses can place on a family but also underscores the community’s role in providing support during such difficult times.
