The late Cordero Gano from Poughkeepsie was a beloved husband, father, and community member. On May 30th, the world lost a beautiful soul when Cordero succumbed to his long battle with mental illness. This tragic event left his three wonderful children fatherless and his wife, Devon Gano, without her life partner.
Cordero’s sister-in-law, Caitlin Gironda, has organized a fundraiser to support his family and memorialize his life. The GoFundMe campaign, titled "Cordero Gano’s Celebration of Life," aims to raise $10,000 to cover funeral expenses and create a lasting tribute for his children. As of now, the campaign has raised $1,910 from 19 donations, with Brian Hildenbrand contributing the top donation of $500.
Rory O’Brien-Knapp expressed the deep sorrow felt by those who knew Cordero, stating, "The world lost a great soul. Please consider donating for my sister and her three precious boys." Many others have shared their condolences and support on Facebook:
- Mallory Boyd Burke: "I’m so sorry to hear this. Many prayers for your family."
- Katie Teal: "I’m so sorry to hear this."
- Rachel Lawlor: "I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. Sending love and prayers."
- Elaine LiVeli: "I’m so sorry to hear about this. Thoughts and prayers for your sister and the boys."
- Pamela Kaelyn: "I’m so very sorry to hear about this terrible loss. Praying for your family as you walk this out."
- Sarah Mercury-McCann: "OMG, I’m so sorry to hear that. I can’t imagine the pain she must be feeling."
- Melissa Mike Milanczuk: "I am so sorry, Rory. My heart breaks for your sister and the kids. Our family has also lived this nightmare and know how deep the pain is. I pray for their comfort and provision as they walk through this heartache."
Cordero’s memorial will include an intimate celebration of life for close friends and family. They plan to plant a tree at the cemetery where his grandfather, an important figure in Cordero’s life, is buried. This tree will provide a place for his children to connect with their father as they grow.
The outpouring of support and shared grief highlights the profound impact Cordero had on those around him. His memory will be honored by his family and friends, and his legacy will live on through his children and the love they continue to receive from their community.
